Digital Literacy (Spring ’22)

Digital Literacy is very critical as things are changing quickly with new technology which shifts the norms of how things work.

If learning how to use a PC was a new thing in 80’s and 90’s, now life cannot be imaged without the help of computers nowadays.

Collaboration (Spring ’22)

I came to learn more about how brains work. Watching the videos taught me that I should not trust brain all the time because brains do not like being overwhelmed with much information. Brains always come up with clever ways to avoid putting new information into them.

Another lesson I learned is that humans rely heavily on stereotypes. Breaking the stereotypes would help build myself in order to become better.

Socio-Cultural Awareness (Spring ’22)

it helped me narrow down what I really want in my life.

By prioritizing my options, it helps see what I truly need to put first in my life. It saves me time and energy from engaging with unnecessary things. Sometimes, it can be very overwhelming when things are happening simultaneously all the time.

Also, the rule of three (from watching the videos) helps me refine my goals not only in my professional careers but also in my personal desires.

Communication (Spring ’22)

Navigating new identities is a challenge for me since I have had many different identities until now.

Since the birth, I was a son of my biological parents, Then, I was adopted to my step-father now, then, I joined the military to become a soldier. Now I’m a college student.

I did take the time to think about each identity I have had throughout my life to evaluate how well I did and which identity that made me truly happy.

It was definitely worth taking the time to reflect on my identities I have had. Also, it helped me think about what new identity I would like to have in the future.

Capstone Reflection (Spring 22)

Reflecting back on my progress for the previous year, I have had many ups and downs that wasted a good amount of time that I could have used for my own growth.

At the end of the day, no one is going to live my life for me. I have gained to love myself and get excited about how my life would change as I take college education seriously and apply the knowledge I gain into my own life.

Reflection

Sep 27 (Mon) 1st meeting (Collaboration)

Our cohort met for the first time. I have already met most of them elsewhere because of similar interests. So, It was quite comforting for me to know who is in my cohort already. I don’t know what we will be doing but I felt like whatever we are assigned to do, we will have fun working together. It was the good vibe and the good energy that drive me to work harder and focus better. Overall, it was a good experience for us all to get to know each other well and discuss our goals, interests.

Oct 4 (Mon) 2nd meeting (Communication)

Communication is what we discussed today during our cohort meeting. As easy as it sounds to communicate, about 80-90% of the problems we face come from miscommunication. In order to best communicate, you have to be a good listener. Listening is the most important factor in communication. If you don’t listen to who you are communicating with, communication simply doesn’t occur. Listening is half of the communication battle.

Oct 11 (Mon) 3rd meeting (Creativity)

Creativity takes practice and persistence. When we discussed creativity today, we shared the creative moments in our lives. Creativity comes best when you are having fun, enjoying the work you are doing. Creativity allows you to have less stress and also gives you a boost to endure the stress of working, creating, and producing. Creativity is something unique and authentic. Therefore, having your own thoughts is very essential to creativity.

Oct 18 (Mon) 4th meeting (Digital Literacy)

Today, we talked about digital literacy. Since we are all doing computer science, going into the STEM field, we are pretty aware of digital stuff. So, we discussed what we can do with our STEM background. The conclusion we came up with the sky is the limit. There’s almost anything I can do with computers, creating the stuff that I can only imagine. However, it occurred to me that having the imagination and making the imagination come true is the task that I need to focus on when you are digitally literate.

Nov 1 (Mon) 5th meeting (Inquiry and Analysis)

Today, we talked about big data and data scientists. We live in a massive amount of data and sometimes feel overwhelmed with the amount of data we face each day. Data scientists are basically statisticians who know how to best analyze data and get the targeted result they aim for initially. In the near future, maybe we should focus mainly on asking “why” first, then asking “what” and “how” are secondary.

Nov 8 (Mon) 6th meeting (Socio-Cultural Awareness)

Today, we talked about diversity. We live in a world where there are many cultures, races, nationalities, and genders, etc. The key is to co-exist in a world we all live in. Therefore, understanding and sharing different cultures is essential to co-exist in a society. History teaches us where we are now and where we should go from the past. Humanity has been taught how to co-exist by going through the mistakes of the past. We should be aware of our surroundings and be understanding of others than myself.
